Support at our Day Services

Our Day Services in Leicester provide a welcoming, supportive space for people from across the City, County and Rutland who are rebuilding their lives after a brain injury. For many, this is a time when confidence has been shaken and everyday life can feel uncertain — and that is exactly where we begin.

We are a person-centred service, where each individual helps shape their own journey. Activities are not prescribed; they are chosen. Whether someone wants to regain skills, try something new, or simply spend time in good company, we work alongside them to make that possible.

At the heart of what we offer is peer support — the opportunity to connect with others who truly understand. Many of the people who come to us say this is one of the most powerful parts of their experience: being somewhere you don’t have to explain yourself, where shared understanding builds confidence, friendships and hope."
A Place to Belong

Headway House is more than a service — it is a place full of laughter, warmth and possibility. A place where people are seen for who they are, not defined by their injury. Recovery here is not only about physical progress, but about rediscovering identity, confidence and joy.
You might find people gathered over tea and cake, chatting and supporting one another. Or trying something new, building skills, or simply enjoying being part of something again.

A Skilled and Committed Team

Our staff bring not only professional expertise, but consistency, care and long-term commitment. Many have worked with us for years, building trusted relationships that are vital to recovery. They understand that progress looks different for everyone, and they are there every step of the way — encouraging, supporting and celebrating each achievement.

A Hopeful Place

We focus on the person, not the injury. This is a place where people are supported to move forward at their own pace, in their own way. There are goals, where individuals want them — but there is also space simply to be, to rebuild confidence, and to rediscover what makes life meaningful. Above all, Headway House is a place of hope and optimism — a place where potential is recognised, where people work together, and where every day brings the opportunity for connection, growth and belonging.

Activities with Purpose

Everything we do has value, even if it doesn’t always look like traditional rehabilitation. Activities include:

• Woodwork, from carving to construction
• Arts and crafts in many forms
• Gardening and growing produce
• Cookery, adapted to individual needs
• Digital activities and games

These activities support confidence, coordination, communication and independence — but just as importantly, they create enjoyment, routine and a sense of achievement.

Our building offers a wide range of spaces to suit different interests, energy levels and goals.

We also welcome visiting artists, including Nellie's Arts, who bring opportunities to explore pottery, clay work, mosaics and glass art — opening up creativity in accessible and enjoyable ways.

• A fully equipped woodwork room, where people can design and build, from simple projects to more intricate work — rediscovering skills or learning new ones
• A creative garden space, complete with a pond and greenhouse, where people can grow plants, spend time outdoors, or simply sit and socialise in a calm environment
• A main activity room for games, conversation and group activities, including inclusive sports such as Boccia and walking football
• A media room, used for film groups, shared viewing and relaxed social time
Quiet spaces for those who need them, recognising that everyone’s needs are different
Beyond the Building

We also support people to reconnect with the world beyond Headway House. This includes trips to:

• The cinema, theatre and even the circus
• Opportunities to try activities such as cricket, archery and cycling
• Community outings that rebuild confidence in everyday environments
